Check on the left under HandsFree Link for all five tutorials I have written.

First of all, you need to acquire a cell phone that is Bluetooth capable.

Bluetooth technology is how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), not to mention a broad selection of other devices, can be easily interconnected using a short-range wireless connection. Using this technology, users can have all mobile and fixed computer devices be totally coordinated.

A list of compatible phones can be found at Handsfreelink.com...where you will also find instructions for pairing your phone. Run through this tutorial before you going there or beginning the pairing process. Once you have gone through this tutorial, go to Handsfreelink.com and view detailed pairing instructions for your particular phone.  At the end of this tutorial, you will see the instructions for pairing my phone (Motorazr V3t).

You must know how to find the Bluetooth 'Discovery or Search Mode.'  In this tutorial, I show how to find it on my Motorola Motorazr V3t.

Phones will vary, but will follow similar patterns.  On my phone, I start by pressing the menu button to show the screen above.  Select the 'Settings' icon.  It is in the lower right corner...already highlighted.

When you select the 'Settings' icon, you will see this screen...

Hands Free Phone #2

...select the 'Connections' option (highlighted above in blue).

Hands Free Phone #3

The screen above shows two options: Bluetooth Link (now highlighted) and, to the right, USB settings.  Select Bluetooth Link.

Hands Free Phone #4

This screen shows the three Bluetooth options. Select 'Handsfree.'

Hands Free Phone #5

You will see any number of listings here, but you want to 'Look for Devices.' The reason there are so many listings on this screen is that I have my phone linked to a number of vehicles.

When it begins scanning for a device the following screen will appear:

Hands Free Phone #6

When it 'discovers' a device, it will say 'Devices Found: 1.'

Again, phones will differ, but if you followed this pathway, you should be able to follow your phone's variation of it.

Once you have become comforable with all of this, go to Handsfreelink.com.

Launch the site. Select 'Pair a Phone.' Find the instructions for your phone by Manufacturer or Wireless Carrier.  Print out the Pairing Instructions for your phone and away you go.

Here are the instructions for pairing my phone:

IMPORTANT: You must press and release the HandsFreeLink talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the beep before you speak. This step is required before all spoken commands.

Power on the phone and ensure Bluetooth® is ON. Please refer to your phone's user guide for steps to turn on Bluetooth.

Press and release the Talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the "beep" before you speak. Repeat this step before all spoken commands.

Say "phone setup"

Say "pair"

Say any 4 digit PIN code for pairing. Remember it as you will need to enter it into your phone later. HandsFreeLink will now instruct you to begin the pairing process in the phone.

Enter the main menu of the phone (as I show above).

Scroll over and enter the Settings & Tools menu.

Press 7 for Bluetooth

Press OK to begin a new search.

Press OK at the following pop up message.

Once search is complete, select device to be paired with and press PAIR.

Enter the passkey and press OK.

Name the device when asked.

Assign a priority if requested.

That's it! If you have any problems, call me.

In my ACURA QUICK GUIDE (see top left side gutter of this site), under 'Hands Free Link,' you will find a great deal of additional information. CLICK HERE to go directly to that page.

Stay tuned for the next tutorial.  I hope you found this to be helpful.  If so, please leave a comment or suggestion.
