Tutorial: How to Navigate and Use the Acura Multi-Information Display (MID)

posted Saturday, 28 April 2007

For this tutorial, I will use the 2007 Acura RDX Technology Package.  In the image below, you see the Multi-Information Display (MID) that is situated in the lower portion of the speedometer.  Next to it, you see the MID controls, situated on the lower right side of the steering wheel.

I have circled the UP/INFO button. The UP/INFO and DOWN/INFO buttons will scroll through three sets of information in the lower portion of the MID display.  (The upper portion of the MID is blank in this image):

As you press the INFO button you will see the information above: temperature - 71 degrees, odometer - 000343, and Trip A - 343.0.  When you press it again, you will see the same information except for the trip guage: it will show you Trip B.  When you press it a third time, you will see the the oil life readout:

When you press the SEL-RESET button (below, right), the top portion of the MID display will scroll through a number of readouts.  The one below shows average speed:

And the display below this shows engine temperature.  As you repeatedly press the SEL-RESET button you will see Elapsed Time, Avg. Fuel since last reset, Instantaneous Gas Mileage, SH-AWD - how much torque is being delivered to each wheel, HandsFreeLink (HFL) information.

If you hold down one of the INFO buttons for 3 seconds you will enter "Customize Mode."  From here you can customize various settings.

After you hold for 3 seconds, you will see the display below.  The left side of the display is a guide to how to scroll through it.  It reminds you that the INFO buttons are now UP and DOWN buttons, and the SEL-RESET button is now the ENTER button.  To the right of that is a fraction, in this case, 1/3, which means this is one of three options to choose from.  Again, use your arrow keys to move up or down, and press the ENTER button to select an option.

NOTE: If you get lost, always scroll down to the last option which is EXIT.  There is always an exit.  Always!

If you select CHANGE SETTINGS, you will be taken to another set of options.  These will include the various settings you can change: Meter Setup, Lighting Setup, Door Setup, Default All...and, of course: EXIT.

For example, under Lighting Setup, you can customize Interior Light Dimming Time and Headlight Auto Off Timer....or, of course, EXIT.

Each of the Acura models will vary from this illustration, but this should help you understand the basic pattern.

Remember: Whenever you feel lost, scroll down and EXIT.  I hope this is helpful.
